Evelyn is One!: an ice cream 1st birthday party
Last week Evelyn turned 1 year old, and we celebrated with an ice cream birthday party!
Evelyn’s 1st birthday party has been in the works for a few months now. I can’t lie, I’ve been spending a LOT more time on Pinterest since starting my “stay-at-home” career, and I was able to gather a bunch of ideas to make the day extra fun.

We had a small group of our closest friends and family stop by and join in the celebration. Evelyn was elated to have all of her favorite people together under one roof!
The ice cream-themed treats really stole the show. I got the inspiration for these ice cream cone cake pops and nutter butters from Rose Bakes, and they were surprisingly easy to make (albeit time consuming)!
Of course, it wouldn’t be an ice cream party without a sundae bar! Matt served the ice cream, complemented by an assortment of everyone’s favorite toppings.
Matt hand-decorated the cake all by himself, putting to work the skills he learned while working in a bakery in high school. I think he did a pretty fantastic job! I loved how it turned out with this mod ‘one’ cake topper.
And since I just couldn’t bear to let Evelyn smash (i.e. waste) a whole cake by herself, she smashed a little pink cupcake instead while the adults enjoyed (more!) cake. I think that cupcake had plenty of sugar for one little girl anyway.
Evelyn got lots and lots of toys and clothes from her friends and family, and has been busy since trying to decide what to play with next. Needless to say, I took it as an opportunity to do a mini purge, boxing up some of the old toys that she’s grown tired of and making room for the new!
Matt and I got Evelyn her very own Fjällräven mini backpack (let’s be honest, it was kinda for me too), and we filled it with fun things to do on the airplane like sticker books, gel window clings, and flashcards! We’re off to Chicago next week, so we’ll see how it goes!
Thanks again to everyone who was able to make it out to help us celebrate! Evelyn is so lucky to have such amazing people in her life! 🙂
